Recipients of an inaugural Scholarship with TasTAFE.

The Tasmania Police Charity Trust announced the recipients of an inaugural Scholarship with TasTAFE.

The Trust is generously supported by police officers and state service staff, through online donations and everyone who contributes to the annual Tasmania Police Charity Trust Bike Ride and Golf Day.

“The Tasmania Police Charity Trust TasTAFE Scholarship was established to support the educational goals of young people in financial need, who have experienced challenging personal circumstances and are committed to improving the opportunities for themselves and their communities,” said Chair of the Trust, Commissioner Donna Adams.

“It was a difficult selection process, with 36 applicants applying for this first round of Scholarships.  Further Scholarships will be available for eligible students commencing study in  2025.”

One applicant was selected in each Tasmania Police district, and the successful recipients for 2024 are:

  • Southern District – Dimity Smith – Certificate III in Accounts Administration, Dimity is working towards becoming a child psychologist, improving outcomes for children in care.
  • Northern District – Anna Suitor – Diploma of Community Services. Anna is committed to working in community services to provide support for young people in challenging situations.
  • Western District – Sean Callister – Certificate IV in Information Technology.  Sean lives in the remote community of Waratah and is committed to gaining skills to improve future opportunities.   

Each student will receive $2000 towards expenses associated with their TasTAFE course, such as a laptop or travel costs.
